On 10th of January in 2012, our founders built the first company, Leaf Energy, which was the first solar energy consulting firm in Malaysia. With sheer determination and a unique business model in the industry, the team managed to not only secure several iconic projects in hand, but also generate impact to the industry through streamlined solar project financing facilitations, as well as successfully completing these projects.

We, Plus Solar, was officially established in 2013 as a strategic vehicle to expand the team’s involvement in other areas of the clean energy business, providing turnkey solution services for the commercial & industrial, large-scale systems and the utility sector.

Just within the year 2013, as a company, we successfully developed and launched the very first end user focused online web Plus Design and Plus Track applications, which allow users to design the solar system by themselves, as well as to track their energy performance anytime, anywhere.

We soft launched Plus Solar Academy, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative designed to provide complimentary Green Technology Education to academic institutions in Malaysia. Our actions continued to gain media exposure, as well as public awareness, enabling us to be interviewed by both BFM and Melody FM.

With key highlights after highlights occurring throughout the year, we did not stop there. We established an asset investment company – Leaf Solar Sdn Bhd, which owns and manages our first megawatt (MW) solar project with 21 years of Power Purchase Agreement signed with TNB. In addition, we have also unlocked our Energy Efficiency business unit with the first project in KL. By the end of the year, we were a proud solar developer of an accumulated value of 27MWp.

Awards continue to aspire us, as we managed to achieve the SME Green Excellence Award 2016 in Platinum Business Awards.

Plus Solar Academy, a CSR Program of Plus Solar, aims to bridge the gap between industrial needs and academic syllabus. Since 2014, we have educated over 3,400 students from around 40 universities all over Malaysia.

By the end of the year, we had cumulatively built about 150,000KWp of solar projects which includes commercial & industrial buildings and solar farms.

Plus Solar Academy organised the first ever Plus Solar National Conference, which was also the first solar PV energy conference in Malaysia, to create awareness of the role of renewable energy, as well as the issues within the industry.

Starting from a company of four individuals, we have reached a total employee headcount of over 120 and counting, who are all dedicated to bringing the company to greater heights.

Our co-founders Ko Chuan Zhen, Ryan Oh Zhi Kang and Poh Tyng Huei clinched the coveted title of the Ernst & Young (EY) Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year. This award is one of the world’s most prestigious business award programs for entrepreneurs, recognizing entrepreneurial activity among those with leadership and achievement.

We formalised our partnership with UOB Malaysia at the “Launch of Asia’s First Solar Industry Ecosystem to Drive Adoption of Renewable Energy”, committing to a new era of higher accessibility of renewable energy for Malaysians.
